Policy components are discrete though sometimes related activities that could be part of a public health policy. We identified 14 CHW policy components to assess in this report (See Table 1 on pg. 2). Many of these components are elements of successful CHW programs, which have implications for policy development, and some of these components can be found in state law. The following components are discussed in the paper: chronic care, team-based care, core certification, supervision, standard core curriculum, Medicaid, specialty certification, certification development, standard specialty curriculum, scope of practice, curriculum development, private insurers, campaign, and grants.
